VISIONAIR Project Workshops at FEM SPU: Air Quality in the Centre of Attention
30.04.2026 | Tomáš Poláčik
As part of the Erasmus+ VISIONAIR project, a research team at the Faculty of Economics and Management at SPU in Nitra held a series of four workshops in April 2026 focused on the issue of air pollution and its impact on human health. The events, designed for students, were part of the project’s activities aimed at raising environmental awareness and fostering young people’s interest in current environmental challenges.

The first workshop, titled “Air Pollution – A Threat That Destroys Our Health”, took place on April 8, 2026, at the Faculty of Economics and Management at SPU in Nitra. It introduced participants to the basic connections between air quality and public health, presented the main causes of pollution, and highlighted its potential consequences for people’s daily lives.
The first event was followed by a series of three workshops held on April 16, 2026, titled “The Silent Killer in the Air: What We (Don’t) See, But Breathe”, which took place in different time slots for students of the FEM SPU. These workshops built on the project’s main theme and focused on the importance of clean air for human health, as well as on ways to mitigate the negative effects of pollution in everyday life.
The primary goal of the workshops was to inform students about the environmental and health consequences of air pollution, foster their interest in environmental issues, and create a space for discussion on potential solutions to this problem at both the individual and societal levels. The events also included an interactive Kahoot quiz, through which students could test their newly acquired knowledge in a fun way. The most successful participants were rewarded with themed prizes, which encouraged active student engagement and increased the appeal of the workshops.
The VISIONAIR project “Raising Awareness and Knowledge Base on Big Data in the Field of Air Quality and Its Impact on Public Health” (No. 2023-1-SK01-KA220-HED-000158470) (https://www.visionairproject.eu/) focuses on engaging students in the collection, analysis, and interpretation of air quality data through big data. Its goal is to identify the environmental, economic, and social consequences of air pollution, assess its impact on public health, and support the development of solutions leading to improved air quality through understandable and data-driven models of data presentation.
The main project coordinator is the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra. The consortium of partners consists of: the Catholic University in Ružomberok (Slovakia), the Miguel Hernández University of Elche (Spain), the University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague (Czech Republic), and the University of Zagreb (Croatia). Together, they strive to raise awareness of the issue of air pollution and its impact on quality of life in Europe.
